“IF YOU SELL THEM , WHY NOT BE HONEST”

Yesterday, while, reading an old issue of American cocking magazine The Feathered Warrior (November 2000 Edition), I came across an article by a certain Floyd’s Fork, entitled If You Sell ‘Em, Why Not Be Honest?

The article was about those gamefowl breeders who advertise in magazines to sell their roosters and how a lot of buyers have been fooled by those rooster-peddlers. A particular paragraph really caught my attention that instantly reminded me of an individual cocker-breeder I have know for a so long. Floyd’s Fork wrote, The really obvious “greedies” are the ones who write articles every month in the guise of wanting to “help” those needy beginners.

They speak freely of how good they do with their fowl, how many derbies they win (although nobody ever knows where or even IF they fight roosters), and that they’re willing to pass along their knowledge and perhaps some of their excellent fowl to help someone. In my opinion, that’s got to be the most disgusting of the lot when it comes to peddlers. They won’t even spend $10 for a small advertisement in order to peddle their chickens. Instead they make the pretense of being experts and sell accordingly. It’s fraud
.
The writer went on with, I fell into a that trap with a man who made all these wonderful claims about his fowl only to find out that they were worthless. This man would write me long letters telling me what a “friend” I was and how he was going to help me. Yeah, right! He helped me out of my wallet! He even makes some silly claims about how he tests his fowl and when the one’s I bought from him failed his OWN test, he got angry and said the same thing all peddlers say, “You must have done something wrong!

After reading Floyd’s Fork words, did some cocker you know or heard enter your mind too like me. Who knows, maybe we’re thinking of the same person.
